tanjo english springers
about
The Tanjo English Springer Spaniel Kennels were established in 1982, in South Africa. Tanjo was the first Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA) accredited English Springer Spaniel kennel in South Africa. The kennel is owned by Joan Whittingham.
After showing numerous locally bred dogs we decided to import. Our first import in 1991 was from Australia, Ch Wongan Moody Blue at Tanjo (Benjamin), a liver, white and tan boy. Our first USA import in 1994 was Ch Salilyn’s Sheer Magic (Zillah). She was the top ESS in South Africa for 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. She was also the top bitch for 2000. She was in the top 100 dogs in South Africa for 1997, 1998 and 1999. She was bred by the late Julia Gasow in the USA and was sired by Ch Salilyn's Condor ex Ch Salilyn's High Regard. She was a full litter sister to Ch Salilyn N Erin's Shameless (Samantha), top Sporting Dog in the USA for 1998 and 1999. Samantha and Zillah's sire won BIS at Westminster Kennel Club in 1992 and Samantha won BIS at Westminster Kennel Club in 2000.
Zillah was joined by Ch The Talking Eyes Big Shot at Tanjo (Zak) in 1998. He was bred by Boris Pegan in the USA, and was sired by Ch Salilyn's Cyclone ex Ch Sieger's Charlotte Hornets. He was the top Springer on the KUSA ratings for 2000.
Ch Ramblewood's Temptation at Tanjo (Zoe) joined us in 2002. She was bred by Theresa Miller and Linda Riedel just outside of Seattle. Her sire is Ch Salilyn's Turbulence, and her dam is Ch (Am/Can) Ramblewood Tapestry. She has done well in the show ring, was Top ESS for 2003 and 2004, and is currently retired at home.
Ch Dansen's Sincerely at Tanjo (Ocho) our first black and white Springer arrived in 2005. Ocho was bred by Dr Danny Sena in Dallas, Texas. Ocho was the top Springer for 2006 and 2007, and was awarded the KUSA 2007 and 2008 National Springer title.
During 2008 we successfully campaigned a black and white puppy bitch we kept from Zoe and Ocho's second litter Tanjo Intrigue (Leila), and she has really done us proud. She has had thirteen shows, won nine puppy groups and been placed 2nd in the other four shows. She has won Best Puppy in Show five times during her puppy career, with one Group win and a Reserve Best in Show. She completed the 2008 year winning Reserve Best Puppy at the Western Cape Top Dog Competition. She was also the gundog puppy group winner at the Supa 7 competition held in January 2009. She is now a South African champion. Danny Sena has attained an American championship on Ch Tanjo N Dansen's Honor, from Zoe and Ocho's first breeding.
We have leased Ch (SA/Bosnia/Croatia) Otein N' Talking Eyes Magnitude (Casino) from Boris Pegan, Bob and Lori Nieto. He will be with us to be campaigned during 2009/2010. Casino was bred by Lori and Bob Nieto in the USA and has been campaigned by Boris Pegan in Europe. Casino has kicked off his South African show career on a high note, with eight group wins and four Best In Show awards to date. He has also been awarded the 2010 National English Springer Spaniel title.
We kept a black and white male pup from the first Leila/Casino litter, Tanjo Jedi Knight, Luke. Luke is PRA and PFK normal (clear). He has been doing well in the showring, already has had 4 puppy group wins, 1 group win and a best Puppy in Show to his name, not to mention 3 CCs.
From the Leila/Casino second litter we have kept a liver and white female, Tanjo Keepsake (Jessica). Jessica is also PRA ,PFK and Fucosidosis normal (clear). Jessica has had her first Open show and won the Gundog puppy group and went on to win Reserve Best Puppy in Show. Way to go, Jessica!
